A Man’s World

17 May

I know.  So far, all of my posts have been about women’s gymnastics, so I thought it would be nice to change it up a bit and do a post on men’s gymnastics.  I have to admit, I am bias- I like women’s artistic gymnastics the best, however, I still respect the work and routines the men do as well.

Some of the up and comers of men’s gymnastics are Danell Leyv, Johnathan Horton and John Orozco. Continue reading

This should not be a surprise to most- Even in the gymnastics world, body image can be an issue fore some girls.  Shawn Johnson was criticized for her body image and chose to stop it by losing weight.

Single Session Tickets Now Available!

5 May

I am just so excited to hear that single session tickets are now available for the gymnastics Olympics trials!  My roommate and I both really want to go, but we did not want to shell out over a hundred dollars for the multi-session tickets.  We both used to do gymnastics (her more than I), so we though it would be fun to go. Although Nastia Luikn won the all-around gold medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, her true dream is to posses a team gold medal.  Along with her gold medal, she won three silver medals, which did not sit right with her; those silver medals have provoked her to try and make a comeback at the 2012 London Olympics.

Tough Competition

3 Apr

Jorydn Wieber is a shoe-in (at least in my opinion) to make it onto the USA Olympic team.  She is the reigning all-around world champion and a girl who has the strong mentality to make it through the Olympic trials.  Nastia Liukin, who won the all-around gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, knows that Wieber is stiff competition.

Shawn Johnson and Nastia Luikin are girls hoping to make a comeback at the 2012 Olympics.

Johnson, probably the most media exposed of the three. She took the past three years off and even won the trophy on “Dancing With the Stars.”

15 Mar

I was going through my Xfinity On Demand, and came across some TV spots for the 2012 London Olympics.  I chose to watch the Top 5 Olympic Hopefuls piece.  I just had a feeling, Jordyn Wieber was going to be somewhere on the list, and when she finally came up I got super excited.

How to do a Cartwheel

7 Mar

Cartwheels are one of the first things learned in gymnastics. They are the first building blocks for gymnasts to learn more advanced skill such as round-offs or walkovers.  They also help gymnasts learn balance, control and vertical alignment.  When executed correctly, a cartwheels should look like a moving pinwheel.
